Preparing a Focused Question for a Startup Program
By STEADYWRK Team
Begin with the program's own current information. Read its eligibility requirements, application dates and stated support before deciding whether it matches the stage of your project.
Define the help you need
Separate a need for feedback from a need for workspace, training or funding. Write a concrete question: what decision are you trying to make, and what information would help you make it? A clear question is easier to evaluate than a general request to “help us grow.”
Show a bounded piece of work
Prepare a short description, a demonstration and the next problem you are trying to solve. Use synthetic information if the example would otherwise reveal private data. Explain what is working and what remains a prototype.
Read the terms of participation
Check what the program asks from participants and what it actually commits to provide. Keep a copy of the published terms you used when applying. A program directory or an old announcement should not be treated as proof that applications are open or that an offer of support has been made.
